Cyber ScamsBAM!  You’re hit.

We’re currently in an economically challenged landscape and know what that means!  Scammers are hitting harder than ever before.  In fact, it’s a lot like navigating a field of landmines.  Suddenly it seems like there’s a scam ready to explode everywhere your client turns.

This spells bad news for everyone, and it can be very overwhelming.  It’s especially a problem for people who saw through simple scams and now think they’re experts.

You know the type.  They brag about how they are NEVER fooled by phishing training. They’re pretty sure they’re ahead of the curve and they’re not afraid to tell you that.

The problem?  Well, they may become complacent due to their overconfidence, and as the field of landmines becomes trickier, they’re at risk of a fatal misstep.

I’m no economist, and this isn’t a blog about the economy, but I am a cybersecurity expert and I do know scammers.  The field of landmines isn’t going away, and, in fact, the pathway through the field is simply going to become progressively more challenging.

Right now, scammers are studying their audience.  Sure.  The prince from Nigeria is well-known enough that it’s part of popular culture, but do you really think that scammers have simply thrown up their hands and said, “That’s our best.  We’ve lost”?

Nope.

They WILL find a way to break through, even to that overconfident smug individual. They will figure out what button will really push a user to do something irrational...to click that link.

Scams will never go away. So, here’s the takeaway: If you’re not educating your clients about them and exposing their risk, you may be eroding your relational capital with them.

Right now, you have the opportunity to capitalize on growing scams to get even your most security-reluctant client to see the very real risks they are confronted with today.

Your clients' users and prospects are being victimized by scams.  Every day they’re being attacked by scammers who destroy businesses and lives. You need to see how.

Look, these are just the facts: users are less safe than they were a year ago, a month ago, and, yes, even one day ago.

Here’s just a small sampling of what could happen:

  • Very public organizations leaking your users’ data from their Salesforce pages.
  • Crypto super scams convincing your users to give away their life savings.
  • Your users are probably impacted by the major ChatGPT data breach.
  • Users being hit by more convincing phishing attacks created by artificial Intelligence.

It’s only a matter of time before one of your clients gets attacked.  How can you help them educate them enough to know what’s good for them? How can you get them to actually accept the recommendations you’ve been making again and again?

Now think of that overly confident person who is sure they know it all. They are that one client who thinks they know better. The one who absolutely believes nothing would ever happen to them. How do you break through to this person?

How do you convey that scammers are just warming up?

Education and trust.  That means YOU are their key.

You’ve been spending time building trust, now it’s time to educate.

Your clients and prospects are living in a state of false security. We both know this. Most don't currently understand the consequences of their users falling for common scams. They can’t see the link between how scams impact their businesses and their lack of security.  Right now, they may not even realize that your security solutions can help nip all of this in the bud.
